Bas-Rhin Israelite Consistory
It is customary to associate heritage with lifeless stones or with places stuck in an almost forgotten era. Now more than ever, our society needs to dive back into its history to better understand contemporary challenges. Heritage and culture are great vectors for transmitting this history and help bring meaning and knowledge.
In addition, they are great grounds for experimentation and innovation that transcend the ages.
It is with this in mind that the Israelite Consistory of Bas-Rhin decided to create a heritage and culture department whose objective is to share with as many people as possible this common heritage that is Alsatian Judaism. Beyond even a material heritage, made up of synagogues, objects and cemeteries, there is something more fundamental than this oral heritage of tradition and use. Thus, the purpose of this department will be broadened with the contribution of the Sephardic culture present in the region for more than 50 years.
