Guardians of Memory
The network of Memory Guardians ( Veilleurs de mémoire) was set up by the two Alsatian departmental councils in cooperation with the two Israelite consistories of Bas-Rhin and Haut-Rhin during the year 2019.
This network recognizes and brings together people of different religious denominations or ordinary citizens who have been horrified by the desecration of Jewish cemeteries in Alsace. To date, more than 60 people voluntarily watch over almost half of the Alsatian Israelite burial grounds. Week after week, since the spring of 2019 when the idea was launched, new Memory Watchers have been added to this network which does not want to leave the last word to profaners.
Currently, we are working on the possibility that students from Alsatian colleges can come to the scene to listen to the strong testimony of these people committed against anti-Semitism and for a better Living Together.
Target audience is college students and all ages.
