Peterborough Liberal Jewish Community (PLJC)

  • The Peterborough Liberal Jewish Community was formed in 1991. Its membership is drawn from a variety of locations within about 50 km of Peterborough, including Spalding, Stamford, Huntingdon, Ely, Oundle and Corby. We do not have our own premises, but hold regular services within the Greater Peterborough area.
  • We are proud to be part of the Movement for Progressive Judaism, with men and women taking equal roles in all aspects of the community. We are inclusive and welcome all Jews and non-Jewish spouses, partners and children.
  • In addition to our regular Shabbat services, we hold additional services for the main Festivals including the High Holy Days, as well as a communal seder and a Chanukkah-themed event.
  • We welcome enquiries from those of the Jewish faith or wishing to know more about it (perhaps with a view to joining the Jewish people). We may be able to help with transport where there are particular problems.
  • As Progressive Jews, we take our responsibility to exercise Tikkun Olam seriously and organize High Holy Day appeals each year, aiming to help to repair the world. Recent appeals have supported the local foodbank, World Jewish Relief, Meketa (supporting Jews in Ethiopia seeking to make aliyah), Beit Halochem (supporting wounded veterans and victims of terror) and Magen David Adom. We undertake an ecological project each year as part of our Tu b’Shvat celebration.
