1700 JLID

In 2021, Jews can be proven to have been living on the territory of present-day Germany for 1700 years: an edict of the Roman Emperor Constantine from 321 mentions the Cologne Jewish community. It is considered the oldest record of Jewish life in Europe north of the Alps.

The focus of this commemorative year will be the public communication and positive accentuation of diverse Jewish life today and the more than 1700 years of Jewish history and culture on the territory of present-day Germany. At the same time, it is important to counteract the resurgence of antisemitism in Europe.
