Documentation Center of the Austrian Resistance


The Documentation Archive of the Austrian Resistance (DÖW) was founded in 1963 by former resistance fighters and committed scientists and has been a foundation since 1983 that is jointly supported by the Republic of Austria, the City of Vienna and the Documentation Archive Association.

Main focus:
resistance and persecution, Holocaust, Roma and Sinti, exile, medicine and biopolitics under National Socialism, Nazi and post-war justice, right-wing extremism after 1945, restitution and compensation after 1945.

Main activities:
collection, archiving and scientific evaluation of thematically relevant sources. Archive and library operations with advisory and support activities for students, journalists, etc. conveying contemporary historical content, especially for young people and schoolchildren, but also in the field of adult education (preparation of teaching materials, exhibitions, guided tours, etc.).
