Egalitarian Jewish Chawurah Gescher Freiburg
Since 1998 there has been GESCHER as an egalitarian, liberal Jewish Chawurah (community) in Freiburg. Gescher is the Hebrew word for BRÜCKE – a bridge to a vibrant, diverse future of Judaism in Germany. The pillars of our bridge are equal rights for women and men, a modern liturgy and openness to all people who are interested in progressive Judaism.
Freiburg also had a rich liberal Jewish life before 1933. With our association “Egalitarian Jewish Chawurah Gescher e. V.”, founded in 2004, we continue this tradition. In the same year we became a member of the “Union of Progressive Jews Germany” and thus of the “World Union of Progressive Judaism” based in Jerusalem.
