Origin

The Jewish Confederation of Ukraine (JCU) was founded in 1999 in Kyiv, Ukraine. It is a non-governmental organization that represents the interests of the Jewish community in Ukraine. The organization was created to promote and protect the rights of Jews in Ukraine and to foster a sense of Jewish identity and community in the country. While it is a confederation of various Jewish organizations in Ukraine, JCU itself is an umbrella organization that coordinates and supports the activities of its member organizations. JCU is actively involved in promoting Jewish culture, education, and social welfare in Ukraine, as well as advocating for the rights of Jewish Ukrainians and combating antisemitism.

Aims

The aims of the Jewish Confederation of Ukraine (JCU) include promoting the interests of the Jewish community in Ukraine, combating antisemitism and other forms of discrimination against Jews, providing social welfare programs for the Jewish community, promoting educational initiatives, and fostering cultural events that celebrate Jewish heritage and traditions. The organization also seeks to maintain relationships with other Jewish organizations around the world and to serve as a representative for the Ukrainian Jewish community in international forums.

Actions

  1. Monitoring and Reporting: JCU monitors and reports on incidents of antisemitism and hate speech in Ukraine. The organization collects data on incidents of antisemitism and uses it to advocate for policies and programs to combat hate and intolerance.
  2. Education and Awareness: JCU runs educational programs and campaigns to raise awareness of antisemitism and promote tolerance and respect. The organization works with schools, universities, and community groups to provide educational resources and programs. JCU also organizes public events and exhibitions to raise awareness of Jewish culture and history.
  3. Holocaust Remembrance: JCU organizes events and programs to commemorate the victims of the Holocaust and raise awareness of its significance. The organization works with museums, schools, and other groups to promote Holocaust education and remembrance. JCU also works to preserve Jewish heritage sites and cemeteries throughout Ukraine.
  4. Legal Support: JCU provides legal support to victims of antisemitic incidents and hate crimes. The organization offers legal advice, representation, and support in pursuing legal action.
