Jewish Liberal Congregation- or Chadasch
Or Chadasch – Liberal Jewish Community Vienna“ was founded in 1991 and is the only progressive Jewish Community in Austria, following the principles of Reform Judaism. The community is a member of the World Union für Progressive Judaism (WUPJ) and of the European Union for Progressive Judaism (EUPJ). Our community’s religious affairs are led by Rabbi Lior Bar-Ami, a graduate of the Abraham Geiger College in Berlin.
Or Chadasch — the name means New Light — is the only progressive Jewish community in Austria. Founded in 1990, we are a member of the European Union for Progressive Judaism (EUPJ) and the World Union of Progressive Judaism (WUPJ). In decisions about Jewish status and conversions we accept the rulings of the Beth Din Austria-Switzerland and the European Beit Din of the EUPJ.
Equal rights for men* and women* inform the basic principles of Progressive Judaism; our members sit, pray, learn and sing together; all can be called to the Torah, lead prayers or hold office. Young people are prepared for Bar/Bat Mitzvah. In addition, the services aim to be comprehensible and meaningful. Our prayer books are in Hebrew, German and English.
